For more than 200 years, Patterson Park has been one of Baltimore’s most prized public spaces and cultural centers. BGE’s support of PPAC enables the community, corporations, and student groups to volunteer and participate in science-based programs. “Patterson Park offers a special natural setting for visitors to appreciate all kinds of wildlife and to observe many ecosystems! The park brings people and animals together in a vibrant and restorative space. BGE’s interest in those connections speaks to our values as a company,” said Alex. BGE has a strong focus on community outreach. Alex Núñez , Senior VP of Regulatory and External Affairs (see page six), emphasizes BGE’s long-term commitment to Maryland’s environment through financial and leadership support to Audubon Maryland-DC. According to Audubon’s website, its mission is to conserve and restore natural ecosystems, focusing on birds, other wildlife, and their habitats, for the benefit of humanity and the earth’s biological diversity. BGE is aligned with Audubon on environmental protection, with a focus on conserving and restoring natural ecosystems for the benefit of Marylanders. BGE provides support to Audubon Maryland-DC through Alex’s service on their board of directors and through a $10,000 BGE Green Grant awarded each of the last three years. BRINGING AUDUBON INSIDE BGE HEADQUARTERS BGE’s Spring Gardens campus, located in South Baltimore, is home to 600 employees supporting natural gas and electric operations, a regional customer contact center, and the utility’s environmental team. The 72-acre property has been in continuous operation since 1855. BGE has made significant efforts to enhance the natural environment in this historically industrial section of the city. It includes a nine-acre riparian forest buffer along the bay waterfront with a combination of native trees, shrubs, and grasses. BGE employee volunteers maintain this habitat as a sanctuary for birds and other animals in an urban environment. Recently, the Audubon Society recognized BGE’s environmental efforts by designating the property as its first corporate Audubon Bird-Friendly Habitat. Alex added, “BGE is committed to improving and preserving the environment in our community, and that starts with our own property. We have transformed an industrial site into a thriving wildlife ecosystem in South Baltimore.” “PATTERSON PARK OFFERS A SPECIAL NATURAL SETTING FOR VISITORS TO APPRECIATE ALL KINDS OF WILDLIFE AND TO OBSERVE MANY ECOSYSTEMS!
