This training defines the expectations placed on our Crew Leaders and Advanced CrewLeaderstobeleadersinsafetypractices,employeeengagement, and work zone quality. The presentation encourages: • Taking ownership • Positively influencing individuals • Practicing self-discipline • Resolving problems with communication The course content is based on books such as Developing the Leader Within You by John C. Maxwell; How to Win Friends and Influence People by Dale Carnegie; Extreme Ownership: How U.S. Navy SEALs Lead; and Win by Jocko Willink and Leif Babin. The course also highlights the Flagger Force Quality program, which began in early 2016. INDUSTRY PARTNERSHIPS | 9 8 | LEADERSHIP DEVELOPMENT Leading the Way in Industry Partnerships Ricardo Cardenas, Flagger Force Regional Support Specialist for the King of Prussia market, has been selected to join the PPL Public Safety Subcommittee as co-chair for 2017. He has been with Flagger Force since October of 2013. In his role as co-chair, Ricardo will be discussing best practices for the safety of the passing public on and around PPL job sites. We are also pleased to announce that Flagger Force Quality Manager Matt Craley has joined the Pennsylvania State Transportation Innovation Council (STIC) Work Zone Safety Technical Advisory Group (TAG). This group is designed to review possible action plans, products, and techniques focused on improving work zone safety as a result of various programs currently being conducted in the state. Matt has been with Flagger Force since December of 2009 and has been instrumental in the development and implementation of our 2Q Quality Department initiative. Leadership Development Designed for high-performing office employees at Flagger Force, the Flagger Force Independent Organizational Study Program provides an opportunity to gain an increased understanding of management and leadership skills as they pertain to all the departments. The curriculum consists of six learning modules: • Field • Branch Office • Branch Manager • Quality • Corporate Department • Leadership Training The new course is designed to be self-paced over 10 months, allowing course members to continue with their daily responsibilities while completing their training. Once they have completed the course, participants will complete a final paper and give a presentation to the executive leadership team detailing the learning and experiences gained during the program. Three individuals have been selected by their immediate supervisors to participate in the IOS inaugural class— Shannon Rode from Finance, Ricardo Cardenas from Safety, and Mark Marano from the Quality Department.
