Before starting your vehicle, you should always begin with a pre-trip inspection, or what we like to call at Flagger Force, a Circle of Safety. This goes well beyond just folding your mirrors! A Circle of Safety is a complete 360° walking inspection around a vehicle before you move it and after you park it. • To inspect your vehicle for possible damage. • Your surroundings can change as well: Another vehicle could have parked behind or near your vehicle during the course of the day, making it difficult to move out of the parking spot. • Hazards may have been created during the workday: Construction debris or other objects could have been moved or collected near your vehicle, potentially damaging your vehicle. WHY IS PERFORMING A CIRCLE OF SAFETY SO IMPORTANT? Completing a Circle of Safety is as simple as going for a walk! 1. After you safely park at your destination, start the inspection of the vehicle from the driver side door and fold in the mirror. 2. Take note of the condition of the entire side of the vehicle, including the running boards and tires. Is there any damage, or are there any hazards nearby? 3. Continue around the back of the vehicle. Check for any damage to the taillights, back bumper, or tailgate, while also looking out for hazards nearby. 4. Proceed to the passenger side of the vehicle. Take note of the condition of the entire side of the vehicle, including the running boards and tires. Is there any damage, or are there any hazards nearby? 5. Fold in the passenger side mirror. 6. Circle to the front of the vehicle. Check that the headlights are clear and free of dirt and that there is no damage to the front of the vehicle. Also look for any hazards nearby. *When it’s time to move your parked vehicle, perform the Circle of Safety again in reverse order. Start with step 6, but this time UNFOLD the mirrors. WHAT IS THE RIGHT WAY TO COMPLETE A CIRCLE OF SAFETY? • Contact your local branch to report any damage. • Speak with the warehouse coordinator. • Do not perform any maintenance yourself.
