8 | NWZAW National Work Zone Awareness Week Kickoff Event (Silver Spring, Maryland)—Tuesday, April 4 Rhonda Outlaw (Sterling Field Superintendent) and Danny Rice (Baltimore Quality Specialist) represented Flagger Force at the national kickoff event. In attendance were the Maryland Department of Transportation Secretary, Pete K. Rahn; Martin Knopp from the Federal Highway Administration; and Laurie Moser, a victim advocate, whose husband, Rick Moser, a Maryland Department of Transportation State Highway Administration employee, was struck and killed in an active work zone in 2007. Virginia Department of Transportation Safety Day (Richmond, Virginia)—Tuesday, April 4 Flagger Force representatives Joel Keefer (Corporate Account Manager), Mark Marano (Richmond Quality Specialist), Gene Burke (Richmond Branch Manager), John Rommel (Baltimore Assistant Manager of Quality), and Matt Craley (Corporate Quality Manager) attended the VDOT Safety Day, held at their central office in Richmond, Virginia. Over 300 people were in attendance to discuss and support work zone safety. Go Orange Day—Wednesday, April 5 Throughout all our facilities, Flagger Force Operations Staff wore orange in support of NWZAW. Nationally, organizations such as the American Traffic Safety Services Association (ATSSA), various departments of transportation, and construction companies showed their support on social media and beyond by wearing orange for safety! National Work Zone Awareness Week (NWZAW) Flagger Force celebrated National Work Zone Awareness Week (NWZAW) throughout our facilities from April 3 through 7 this year. NWZAW is an annual spring campaign held at the start of construction season to encourage safe driving through highway work zones.
