PA Chamber Features Mike Doner on AI, Human Judgment, and the Future of Work

Flagger Force President and CEO, Mike Doner, recently shared his perspective on the role of artificial intelligence in the workplace in a thought leadership article published by the Pennsylvania Chamber of Business and Industry’s The Current.

In “AI Can’t Make Eye Contact,” Mike explores how organizations can embrace emerging technology while continuing to recognize the value of human judgment, accountability, experience, and connection.

Drawing from more than two decades leading Flagger Force and observing traffic control professionals make real-time decisions in dynamic work environments, Mike argues that the most valuable technology investments are those that help people perform at a higher level—not simply replace the work they do.

At Flagger Force, that philosophy is already reflected in investments in communication and training tools, advanced work zone technology, vehicle telematics, and other innovations designed to strengthen safety and operations. Mike notes that AI should be approached in the same way: as a tool that expands human capability while preserving the judgment and accountability people bring to critical decisions.

The article also challenges business leaders to consider broader measures of progress as AI adoption grows, including whether technology makes work safer, helps employees make better decisions, creates opportunities for growth, and delivers lasting value for businesses and the communities they serve.
